Interview With The Founder
#waterfronts #boaties
He’s the man with a longer history in Marine Consultancy and Construction than anyone in the industry. So we are (sea)sponges and want to absorb as much as we can! #hottips #idealwaterfronts Here are our rapid fire questions for the consultant always on the go….
“Still today it is the most practical and robust of all marine structures”
On winning an an Australian Design Award..
Lets start at the beginning, how did you get into this unique industry?
In 1978 I purchased a marine diving and salvage company in the southern suburbs of Sydney. The business blossomed and it soon became apparent that there was a need for Marine Construction and Consultancy that was allied to the diving business.
Do you have a boat?
I own a Boston Whaler which I love because of its practicality, being able to walk around the entire perimeter of the boat amongst other design elements. It also suits our family with grandchildren running a muck, there’s not too much to be worried or precious about. Its easy to jump off and get in the drink. It also works very well for me going out to site visits. Sometimes I have to dive on jobs and when you are doing this solo the features of this boat make it easy with a remote anchor, etc. it works a treat!
Is this your favourite boat or is there some other dream boat you would love to own?
Its not flashy or anything but in the bay around from where I live there is this gorgeous old timber putter. That would be my dream boat…but it would be a labour of love.
What do you think is the best waterfront treatment as far as structures goes?
Early in my career I won an Australian Design Award for pontoon design and construction. The basis of that design was semi revolutionary in offering an all tied floating platorm to embark and disemabrk from vessels. Still today it is the most practical and robust of all marine structures.
Are there any new marine gadgets or watercrafts you’ve seen that your looking forward to trying?
Its making me sound old but I remember the advent of Jet-skis and I didn’t think they had a future, so I am probably not the best person to ask!
What’s the best thing about being on the water/working on the water?
Access to unique lifestyle activities and the ability to enjoy our beautiful waterways with family and friends.
